Plan & Presentation

We have now completed our project plan which went reasonably smoothly apart from a slight change in the project title. Instead of 'How does repettion affect the player' it is now 'How can repetition in games be used to affect player experience'. This is much more refined to what we have already researched and what we want the project to be about.

Our presentation is also complete which outlines everything in the literature review, proposal and plan.

Writing up the lit review

So far the literarture review is starting to take shape, all team members have extracted useful information from books and articles which relate to different areas of repetition in games. We have decided to break down the literature review into sections and focus in on one form of repetition to base our project around. The references need touching up on and the proposal still needs to be written up but we plan to have it all sorted by next Tuesday.

Beginning research

This week we started work on our first task. After our meeting with Andrew we had a team meeting where we wrote down each section of our plan and what it needed to contain. We each chose a different section to work on for next week. With the literature review being quite a large section, we decided the whole group can chip in with whatever references we find and Mike will write it up properly.

In the literature review we are going to break it up into sections describing different areas of repetition in games. This will give it better structure and make it easier to identify the area we want the project to be about. So far we have found quite a few books which have sections related to repetition which we will compile together and put them under the section they relate to.

Looking at repetition

The aim for this week is to refine our idea of games repetition into a more specific area. We have chosen to look at repetition within the games rather than how they repeat from other games. We found a few books in the library which closely relate to the theme of repetition which should be useful for when it comes to writing the literature review.

There was a meeting which Sean and I missed where the others discussed which engine to create the artefact in and managed to create the project proposal. I think at the moment we are hovering around the idea of using UDK which I am very confident with.

The first week

Our first week went pretty well, I had never worked with Mike or Michaela before but we all found a common ground which was that we wanted to do something in the field of repetition in level design and how it effects players. We knew this was a broad area but it wasn't until after our meeting with Brian we realised just how many different types of repetition there are in games.
